U.S. congratulates Brazil for its role on FARC Hostage Release

Robert Wood - State Departament Acting Spokesman

Robert Wood
State Departament Acting Spokesman

Statement by Robert A. Wood, Acting Spokesman, U.S. Departament of Sate
February 2, 2009

We welcome the release of four long-held hostages, three policemen and one soldier, and call on the FARC to immediately release all remaining hostages. There is no justification for the FARC's continued victimization of innocent people.

We commend all those who helped win freedom for these four hostages. In particular, we want to acknowledge and congratulate Brazil for the role it played in providing airlift for this operation.
