Former Assistant USTR for the Americas talks about the Role of the Private Sector in Trade Negotiations in a Seminar in Belo Horizonte

Regina Vargo
, Senior Director for Global Trade at Greenberg Traurig and former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for the Americas, participated as the U.S. Speaker in the seminar "The Role of the Private Sector in Trade Negotiations: A Compared U.S./Brazil Perspective." The event took place on October 17, 2006, in Belo Horizonte, and was organized by the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce.

The seminar was opened by the U.S. Consul General in Rio de Janeiro, Elizabeth Lee Martinez, together with the President of the AmCham-Belo Horizonte, Jorge Perutz, and the Vice-Secretary for International Affairs of the Minas Gerais state government, Luiz Antônio Athayde Vasconcelos, this being the first official program of the new CG in Minas. Other speakers included Ambassador Régis Arslanian, Director of the Department of International Negotiations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), and Sandra Polônia Rios, Trade Consultant for the National Confederation of Industries (CNI). One hundred government officials, businesspeople, corporate executives, analysts and economists attended the program. In her remarks, Regina Vargo presented a comprehensive overview of the role played by the Trade Advisory Committees in the formulation of U.S. trade policies and negotiations.
